HDFC Bank complaint escalation: the four levels
For HDFC Bank account, card and loan customers in India whose complaint was not resolved, was closed without a fix, or got no reply
Complain to HDFC Bank first at a branch, on PhoneBanking 1800 1600 or 1800 2600, by email or the online form, and allow up to 10 working days. Then go to the Grievance Redressal Officer (1800 266 4060), then the Principal Nodal Officer. No reply in 30 days? File free with the RBI Ombudsman on cms.rbi.org.in.
The 30-second answer
- Level 1, customer-facing channels. Visit your branch, use the online complaint form, email (for example support@hdfc.bank.in for accounts and debit cards), write a letter, or call PhoneBanking on 1800 1600 or 1800 2600. HDFC Bank asks for up to 10 working days.
- Level 2, Grievance Redressal Cell. Not happy with Level 1? Contact the Grievance Redressal Officer for your product with your previous complaint number. For banking products, call 1800 266 4060; for credit cards, 044-61084900.
- Level 3, Principal Nodal Officer. Not happy with Level 2? Email the nodal officer at nodal.officer@hdfc.bank.in, or the Principal Nodal Officer at Pnohdfcbank@hdfc.bank.in (022 - 62841505).
- Level 4, RBI Ombudsman. Still unresolved after Levels 1 to 3, or no response within 30 days of lodging? File free on the RBI CMS portal at cms.rbi.org.in, within 90 days.
How do I escalate a complaint against HDFC Bank?
HDFC Bank has three internal levels: customer-facing channels, then the Grievance Redressal Cell, then the Principal Nodal Officer, and it asks for up to 10 working days at each. If the issue is still unresolved after these, or you have had no response within 30 days of lodging the complaint, file free with the RBI Ombudsman on cms.rbi.org.in.

How long does HDFC Bank take to resolve a complaint?
HDFC Bank's grievance page says "Please give us up to 10 working days to resolve your complaint or query" at Level 1, and repeats it for the Grievance Redressal Officer and the Principal Nodal Officer. Its Customer Grievance Redressal Policy (Version 1.14, updated 28 November 2025) says every complaint gets a reference number and you are told the expected date of closure. The policy also says complaints that are partly or wholly rejected go to HDFC Bank's Internal Ombudsman, whose decision binds the bank. RBI's rule runs alongside: if HDFC Bank has not replied within 30 days of receiving your complaint, you can go to the RBI Ombudsman.
Who is the HDFC Bank nodal officer?
HDFC Bank's Principal Nodal Officer is Mr. Ripal Kirtikumar Sheth, Lower Parel West, Mumbai, on 022 - 62841505 or Pnohdfcbank@hdfc.bank.in, per its grievance page. For state nodal officers, its nodal officer email page lists nodal.officer@hdfc.bank.in for every region, and its Call us page lists state phone numbers. HDFC Bank also names the nodal officer for each RBI Ombudsman office on its Ombudsman details page. We link those lists instead of copying names, because banks update them.
What if money was taken from my HDFC Bank account without my consent?
HDFC Bank's unauthorised transactions page says to report credit card, debit card, NetBanking or UPI transactions not done by you on 18002586161. For prepaid cards, call PhoneBanking on 1800 1600 or 1800 2600; from overseas, 022-61606160. You can block a debit or credit card at once through NetBanking. HDFC Bank's grievance page also points to the National Cyber Crime Helpline, 1930. If the bank does not resolve it within 30 days, take it to the RBI Ombudsman on the CMS portal.
Common problems and what to do
HDFC Bank closed my complaint without fixing it
Do not start again at Level 1. Contact the Grievance Redressal Officer for your product with the complaint number and the bank's reply, then the Principal Nodal Officer. Three rounds of 10 working days can run past 30 days, and RBI does not make you wait for every level. RBI accepts a complaint once 30 days have passed with no reply, or once you are unhappy with the bank's reply.
Credit card complaint or mis-selling
Write to customerservices.cards@hdfc.bank.in first. For the Level 2 credit card Grievance Redressal Officer, call 044-61084900 or use the credit card complaint form. For mis-selling or harassment by a card sales representative, HDFC Bank lists cardsales.complaint@hdfc.bank.in and 044 - 61084900.
Loan or EMI complaint
Email loansupport@hdfc.bank.in at Level 1. For loans taken through a digital lending app, the Level 2 contact is the Digital Lending Grievance Redressal Officer on 1800 266 4060 or the digital lending form.
